The FAA in the United States first implemented airport Security in 1973. It’s
requirements where that the airlines had to conduct pre-boarding security screening.
According to the Air Transportation Security Act of 1974 (P.L. 93-366, 88 Stat. 409)
required the screening of all travellers and their carry-on luggage. The FAA was
enforced by the congress to submit semi-annual reports on the success of screening
techniques. This strategy of screening travellers was executed based on the number of
hijackings on domestic flights in the United States. From 1968 and 1972, 364 residential
flights had been hijacked in the United States, mostly flights to Cuba. By the 1990s,
occurrences of hijacking were eliminated in the United States. ?The day of September
11, 2001, when terrorists hijacked four U.S. airliners American Airlines Flight 11, United
Flight 175, American Airlines Flight 77 and United Airlines Flight 93 into buildings and
one into the ground, which caused thousands to die. The Aviation and Transportation
Security Act gave the Federal Government responsibility for airport screening, and it
created the Transportation Security Agency, to conduct security in every way of
traveling.
