The United Nations convention on the rights of the child 1989 – these ensure that children are safe and looked after, children have a right to be protected from all forms of violence, mental, physical abuse, injury or neglect.
Children Act 1989 – Parents and professionals must all work to ensure the safety of a child. The local authority has a duty to investigate when they believe or have a strong enough reason to suspect that a child is suffering or is likely to suffer serious harm.
Educational Act 2002- this sets out roles and responsibilities of the local educational authorities head teachers and any other staff that work at the school. This ensures that all children are safe at all times and free from any harm.
Children Act 2004 – This provides the legal framework for every child matters, this is a requirement for all services to work closely together.
Working together to safeguard children 2006 – this underlines duties for any organisation and how they must work together to safeguard young people and children.
