The imagery of disease and decay further conveys the idea of a murky atmosphere, the state of Denmark has. The King has no qualms about using Roz, Guild and Polonius as pawns to have his way. They meet a tragic end as they get entangled in the web of corruption, deceit and manipulation that Claudius is weaving to cement his high status as king. Fortinbras Hamlet has a moral conflict about acting on this discovery of treachery. He stages the Mousetrap to “catch the conscience of the king” and after he murders Polonius he becomes a sinner and his reflective and sensitive nature disappears.
