Many individuals diagnosed with dementia will have concerns about losing their identity and their independence. Although it is hard not to think about the condition you have developed, thinking about it and worrying will not do your health any good. It is important to advis6e the individual and their families to talk about any fears they may have, this will help towards them overcoming any concerns. You can access any information from your GP surgery, libraries and on the internet. If you are using the internet to gain any information, you need to ensure that it is from a reliable source and up to date, websites such as NHS Direct and Alzheimer’s Society are a good source. The individuals condition may decline each day, this could lead to family members worrying. To help reduce the worry of family members, the individual can be supported so they are able to live at home independently for as long as possible. Notes, labels, lists could be used as memory joggers.
