First, fast food places should not be held responsible for the rise in obesity rates because it is simply the consumers choice. In addition, the choice to eat at a fast food restaurant is a personal decision. The American consumer can make his or her own decision to eat there. There are many people who eat fast food but are not obese. Moreover, there are numerous reasons why obesity is on the rise. For example, inactivity due to video games and television is a reason why obesity is on the rise. Tobacco companies sell products that are known to cause all sorts of health risks, yet they still do it. They are not held not responsible so therefore fast food companies should not be held responsible for simply selling food.
