Culturally skilled counselors are aware of how their own cultural background and experiences have influenced attitudes, values, and biases about psychological processes. Culturally skilled counselors are able to recognize the limits of their multicultural competency and expertise. Multicultural education is an educational philosophy that focuses on celebrating cultural differences while also recognizing the importance of challenging all forms of discrimination based on race, gender, age, religion, ability or sexual orientation. This helps in achieving better results via using counseling techniques. Multicultural education teaches people to acknowledge, embrace, and respect difference. Multicultural awareness helps counselors come to terms with personal, cultural, and ethnic identity while simultaneously encouraging and providing settings for students to come to terms with their own culture and ethnicity.
